Serve & Volley
Tips
overview
"Serve and volley" is a classic strategy in tennis, typically employed by players in singles or doubles matches. It involves two main components:
Serve: This refers to the initial shot of the point, where a player stands behind the baseline and hits the ball over the net into the opponent's service box. The serve in a serve and volley strategy is often a powerful, well-placed shot intended to put pressure on the opponent. The goal is to start the point offensively and take control early.
Volley: After hitting a serve, the player quickly moves towards the net, preferably to the area near the service line. When the opponent returns the serve, the server looks to make a quick, aggressive shot (known as a volley) by hitting the ball out of the air, ideally before it bounces. The aim is to put pressure on the opponent, disrupt their rhythm, and potentially win the point with a well-placed volley.
The serve and volley strategy relies on a combination of a strong serve and excellent net skills, including quick reflexes and good touch at the net. It's an aggressive approach to tennis that can be effective because it limits the opponent's time to react and counterattack.
